SMATS, Orange Traffic and Innovation Mi8 partner to bring Floating Car Data analytics to Quebec’s transportation community

Ottawa, Canada – September 14, 2025 – Today SMATS Traffic Solutions announced a partnership with Orange Traffic through its Innovation Mi8 division. Under this partnership, Orange Traffic and Innovation Mi8 will serve as the exclusive distributor of SMATS’ advanced traffic analytics derived from Floating Car Data (FCD) across Quebec. Together, the companies will introduce this innovative solution to transportation practitioners across the province, giving agencies faster access to real-world traffic insight, uncovering “blind spots” and gaps in traffic data, reducing study costs and supporting more informed mobility decisions.

Floating Car Data is anonymized data collected from GPS-enabled vehicles and mobile applications. SMATS’ AI/ML-powered iNode platform ingests this data, processes it at scale and transforms it into reliable, context-rich traffic metrics, insight and visualizations that agencies can use to diagnose issues, monitor network performance and make informed mobility decisions.

Traditional traffic studies often rely on roadside infrastructure and costly deployments. While device-dependent data collection remains essential for many applications, FCD analytics are increasingly being used as a practical and scalable alternative.  

Through this partnership, agencies and municipalities in Quebec can access infrastructure-free, real-time and historical traffic metrics, such as travel times, speeds, volumes, origin-destination analysis, and much more, for infrastructure planning as well as traffic engineering and operations projects.
