End-to-end solution integrates roadside sensors with edge computing power and cloud-based software

Overview

To manage congestion during Auckland’s $1.6B Eastern Busway construction, the Eastern Busway Alliance deployed an integrated end-to-end solution powered by SMATS TrafficXHub and smartmicro radar sensors. This hardware fusion enabled real-time monitoring of travel times, vehicle volumes, lane-level speeds, and multimodal traffic data—all visualized in SMATS’ iNode platform. With no existing sensor infrastructure, this solution delivered high-definition insights from edge to cloud. It supported before-and-after analysis, proactive congestion mitigation, and informed Variable Message Sign deployment. The result: smoother operations, enhanced motorist experience, and daily use by engineers to meet key performance goals.
