Making Brantford safer: a data-driven road risk assessment

How brantford took a data-driven approach to ranking high-risk roadways

Overview

To meet its road safety goals, the City of Brantford partnered with SMATS to adopt a data-driven approach for identifying high-risk road segments. Using SMATS’ iNode platform and Floating Car Data, the City gathered key traffic metricsβ€”like 85th percentile speeds and AADTβ€”without installing physical sensors.

Covering over 1,400 km of roads, the project produced a ranked map of road risk scores, prioritized top-risk corridors, and objectively assessed proposed Community Safety Zones. The result is a scalable, centralized platform that now powers Brantford’s proactive traffic safety planning and monitoring.
